Fun Fair Entertainment and Activities Just For Kids
At the 2011 Iowa State Fair "Nothing Compares" to the kids activities and entertainment all free with gate admission. From the Blue Ribbon Kids' Club to the Fun Forest Stage and family-friendly fun in the Kids' Zone, family Fairgoers will always have something to see or do. The Fair is set August 11-21.
New this year is the Kids' Zone - a special area packed with food, games and entertainment - planned with young Fairgoers in mind.
Calling all Ships and Captains! VPRD cardboard boat race tomorrow!
If you have ever dreamed about being a boat captain, your time to make it a reality will be tomorrow night, Saturday, July 30th!
The VPRD is organizing its first ever cardboard boat races.
Construct a boat beforehand using only cardboard and duct tape then bring it out to the Vinton Community Pool at 6 PM to get it registered for the races.
Youth Soccer Camp begins August 1st
Youth Soccer Camp is a high-intensity camp for kids ages 5-12 that integrates real skill, character and faith development into a FREE, five-day event. It begins Monday, August 1 at 6:30-8:30 PM and runs through Friday, August 5 on the Braille-School Soccer Field. It features age-specific groups with drill-coaches, skill-measured awards & prizes, and an energized support staff.
Butter Extravaganza and Grand Opening Discounts at 2011 Iowa State Fair
On opening day, August 11, the Iowa State Fair will kick-off the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the world-famous Butter Cow, an Iowa State Fair tradition since 1911. Fairgoers can receive discounted admission with a half-price coupon, found in the Fair's August 7 daily program. The 2011 Fair runs August 11-21.
The opening ceremony will include the unveiling of the 2011 Butter Cow and companion sculpture as well as a free piece of cake for the first 1000 people.
Iowa State Fair Can Sculpture to Aid Food Insecure
The Iowa State Fair is set to include an exciting new project to celebrate food and farming while helping those who are food insecure. Together We CAN will feature sculptures of the Butter Cow and other agricultural items made out of canned goods. The Iowa State Fair celebrates 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21.
Together We CAN will use thousands of cans of food to sculpt a larger-than-life replica of the Butter Cow, a milk carton and a market hog set in a "field" of corn and soybeans.

Vinton is once again organizing a team for the Mercy Medical Center breast cancer walk to be held on October 2, 2011. Please join Team Vinton and join our cause. Last year we had over 130 members on our team, nearly doubling the year before and we are hoping to double our numbers again this year. We had a LOT of fun last year.
Iowa State Fair Animal Learning Center to Awe Ag Audiences
Celebrating five years at the Iowa State Fair, the Paul R. Knapp Animal Learning Center continues to educate and delight Fairgoers of all ages. "Nothing Compares" to this hub of agricultural activity that will feature young farm animals and fresh educational programming August 11-21.
The state-of-the-art agricultural education exhibit features live births of various species including cattle, swine, goats and sheep, allowing young and old alike to learn about the animal birthing process.
